Big tech firms are joining forces to “self regulate” AI. Google, IBM, Amazon, OpenAI, Microsoft, and other firms are forming the Coalition of Secure AI (CoSAI). The three stated goals: develop best practices for AI security, secure AI applications, and address challenges in AI. More specifically, CoSAI will seek to provide access to open-source tools and frameworks.

Investigation finds companies training AI models with YouTube content without user permission - READ MORE
Apple, Anthropic, Nvidia and other large AI firms have been using YouTube content to train their models. Video subtitle data was compiled into “The Pile” dataset (also included deleted user content) and utilised by numerous firms - without permission from YouTube users. This revelation opens up questions around the legal and ethical landscape of AI content - especially around user privacy.

Both Apple and Meta will not release most future AI products to European users. They are concerned with running afoul of European GDPR and DMA rules - and also wary of general regulatory uncertainty. There is also ongoing litigation and discussions between the above firms and European authorities.
